Andorra la Vella, Andorra

Heading south out of Toulouse we decided make a brief stop over in one of the world’s smallest countries, Andorra.  Between the borders of France and Spain, Andorra is a mere 181 square miles (468 km2) nestled in the Pyrenees mountain range and home to approximately 84,000 citizens.  A very popular ski destination in the winter and shopping tax haven, tourism accounts for 80% of its GDP and is the country’s economic primer as this tiny country services over 10 million visitors each year.  With most other Europeans working on their tans at various beaches around the Mediterranean, Andorra becomes a steal of a vacation during the summer and thus served as a nice and quiet two-day respite for Al and I.

We found an amazing deal at a five-star resort named the Andorra Park Hotel in Andorra la Vella, the capital city and highest in Europe at an elevation of 1,023 meters.  From the icy spring fed pool outside, to the heated pool, spa and exercise facilities indoor, two days went by surprising fast as we were determined to soak up as much luxury as we could during our stay.

We did manage to muster enough motivation on the second day to walk around the town a bit and take advantage of the tax-free shopping.
